Mac Odbc: Dsn Configuration For Mac
. If necessary, go to to download the ODBC Administrator tool.
Launch the ODBC Data Source Administrator from /Applications/Utilities. Select the Drivers tab. In the Description field, type SQL Anywhere 12. Click Choose and select the SQL Anywhere ODBC driver in both the Driver File Name and Setup File Name fields.
By default, it is located in /Applications/SQLAnywhere12/System/lib32/dbodbc12r.bundle. The r in the bundle name indicates that it is the threaded version of the driver. There is also an unthreaded version ( dbodbc12.bundle) for use with unthreaded applications. You can add the information with a text editor. The ODBC configuration files are located in /Library/ODBC within your home directory. There is an odbcinst.ini file for driver information and an odbc.ini file for data source information.
You can also use the Data Source utility (dbdsn) to create ODBC data sources on Mac OS X.
I am having trouble connecting to a SQL Server (2008 R2) via the new Excel 2016 for Mac SQL Server ODBC New Database Query feature. We also have another SQL Server (SQL Server Express 2012) that I also access via ODBC on Windows Excel 2016.
I tried to follow the Office Support info available on this link: I successfully manage to query the same SQL server in Windows using ODBC connections to the SQL server on our LAN. However, I try the same or similar settings with my Mac's Excel 2016 and I do not succeed in making the connection.
Odbc Drivers For Mac
I do the following: I started with the following settings: Server Name: 10.66.4.4 Database: MSSQLSERVER1 Authentication: Method: Username/Password User Name: crystal Password:. Error Message: SqlServerODBC (15) Failed to connect to the SQL Server instanceL 28000: Login failed for user 'crystal'. I then found some support that stated that I need to specify the Port number for the server (60198): Server Name: 10.66.4.4,60198 Database: MSSQLSERVER1 Authentication: Method: Username/Password User Name: crystal Password:. Error Message: SqlServerODBC (15) Failed to connect to the SQL Server instance: HY000: Connection broken unexpectedly Now the error code changes from 28000 to HY000 and the message reads 'Connection broken unexpectedly'. I also tried without specifying the actual Database name with the same result. I originally started with the Office support forum pages - see the following post: It was on this forum where they pointed me to this forum. So it seems that I am now stuck between the two forums that appear to be referring me to the other.
How do I solve this? Microsoft Answers forum seems to think this is an authentication issue but I don't have any issue accessing the same SQL server via ODBC on a windows 7 machine and I use the SQL authentication and not Windows NT Auth. I am really hopeful that someone would be able to help me debug this problem and provide some support for me to move forward and get the SQL ODBC setup working with the Excel 2016 for Mac.
Apologies for the slow response, I forgot to be alerted when someone responds. The username is correct because we are using SQL authentication instead of Windows Authentication.
On Windows the ODBC SQL Server DSN Configuration is setup With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and password instead of with Windows NT authentication. The login ID is crystal and this works fine using Excel 2016 on Windows. I am unfortunately not able to attache images or links yet as my account hasn't been verified, but I did originally start with a O365 for Business Forum query where I raised where they pointed me to the MSDN Forums for more help on the SQL Server Data Access. I am really hopeful that someone will be able to direct me to solving this conundrum. I am happy to make configuration changes to the SQL server if necessary, but I do need advice on this as I am not a SQL Server expert.
