I've had my lexmark X75 for nearly 2 years now and i have never gotten it to print a page from linux.

There are drivers, however, for the X73. What's that about?!? I've emailed them about if/when a driver would be released, and got back some crap like 'We plan to continue to ignore all our linux users for the foreseeable future. Oh, and we wont even release info so that you can write your own drivers. Instead we'll make you illegally reverse-engineer our printers into working, and even then they wont work well. Okay, so I got frustrated and decided to run a Google search, for myself.

I had read that other people had done similar searches with no success; and that it was possible the driver was missing because of the newness of the printer. Despite all this, my stubborn streak came out and I typed 'lexmark z605 printer driver for linux' and it gave me several choices.

I wasn't expecting any success, but I made a selection that seemed hopeful and found success on my first hit! Lo and behold, this - sent me to a download page listing z600 and z700 printer drivers. It was the Lexmark Linux Developers webpage. There are also readme files available. I've downloaded the file and am going to attempt an install.

I'll post back with my success or failure. Wish me luck! And good luck to anyone else who tries it! Hey ya'll, good news, Lexmark has released the cups driver for the Lexmark z600 series printer. Hopefully the z700 will be shortly behind. Go here to get the driver. I really liked the printer (under Win98) and the price was right. Unfortunately when I evolved to Linux, I couldn't get it to go.

I worked and worked and finally got it to print a full sheet of paper with the word 'lexma' on it and a bunch of ascii junk. I, too emailed customer no-service, simply asking to be notified when linux drivers were available for my printer. The response was something like: 'There are no plans to support these printers for Linux users. Upgrading to Windows 98/ME/XP will allow you to use your printer.' No, thanks, Lexmark. I gave the lousy printer to my 11 year old daughter to use with the laptop her school issued her this fall.

I still consider myself a newbie.currently I'm emplyed as a M$ sysadmin and hate it! My previous employment was with a company running Solaris and Redhat 7.we laughed at the NT4 box the office users used.I set up a Samba server on one of the development boxes as an experiment b4 I was laid off and turns out it was a blessing, the travan broke in the NT4 box, and they were able to backup using the linux box's tape. I'm off to print out pics of my dream mountain bike, the Banshee Scream.
