Directsound 3d Drivers For Mac

Posted on -

I just read about this today in MaximumPC. I haven't seen it posted anywhere else. Vista will not include DirectSound 3D.

This DS3D API set is used by many games for positional sound or 5.1 sound. That means native OS support for EAX is gone, among other things.

Microsoft's justification is that most new games are using OpenAL. However, that still leaves many legacy games without surround sound (i.e. Call of Duty 2). Creative Labs is creating an application called 'Alchemy'. This app will emulate the DS3D and translate the command calls into OpenAL.

However, it is Creative Labs. I personally do not trust their programming skills after the year of X-Fi problems. Adding a translation layer requires some additional processing and another venue for bugs. Since Creative Labs is developing it, I can assume it will be proprietary. That may mean those who are not running Creative sound cards maybe be SOL. I have 6000 rtm x64 and x32 installed using x-fi extreme music with the desember drivers in f.e.a.r i have no suport for eax what so ever so basicly i need two operating systems running so i can play f.e.a.r couse sound is terrible in plain sterio this is alsow confirm by Catherina-CL at creative that there will not be any suport for d3d eax in vista i hope thy will make a 3'rd party program for this to work but will it happen not likely by ms ore creative or it would have been made by now maby some genius at home can doo it for us. Good news i think there is a 'kx project' going on at driverheaven and has for some time it seams in short it seams this program enables cards that dont have D3D EAX (amongst other things) suport to enjoi it non the less by software rendering D3D before it goes to the soundcard tho this app is not made for vista persay but ass far as i can understand this should give us what we miss in vista the dude working on this software is going to start working on x64 vista drivers for this app soon (missing some hardware he stated) (edit) hmm vista x32 maby good to go then anyone tested it?

Did not reed the whole section on the stuff(would take years) but i think i get the ide x fingers and all for this dude folks link for those intersted in digging more into this.

IrrKlang is a cross platform sound library for C, C# and all.NET languages It is a high level 2D and 3D cross platform (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux) sound engine and audio library which plays WAV, MP3, OGG, FLAC, MOD, XM, IT, S3M and more file formats, and is usable in C and all.NET languages (C#, VisualBasic.NET, etc). BASS is an audio library for use in Windows and Mac OSX software.

Its purpose is to provide developers with powerful and efficient sample, stream (MP3, MP2, MP1, OGG, WAV, AIFF, custom generated, and more via add-ons), MOD music (XM, IT, S3M, MOD, MTM, UMX), MO3 music (MP3/OGG compressed MODs), and recording functions. All in a tiny DLL, under 100KB. in size. On Windows, BASS requires DirectX 3 or above for output, and takes advantage of DirectSound and DirectSound3D hardware accelerated drivers, when available. On OSX, BASS uses CoreAudio for output, and OSX 10.3 or above is recommended. Both PowerPC and Intel Macs are supported.
